S. Korea's military prosecutors seek overseas travel ban on 10 officers

South Korea's military prosecutors on Friday sought an overseas travel ban on 10 officers involved in the martial law declaration, made by President Yoon Suk-yeol earlier this week.

The defense ministry's prosecution requested that the justice ministry should impose an emergency overseas travel ban on 10 active-duty officers accused of or involved in insurrection charges relevant to the martial law declaration.

Those subject to the travel ban included chiefs of the capital defense command, the army special warfare command, and the counterintelligence command.

The defense ministry suspended the duty of the three commanders and transferred them to other units.

The moves were attributed to the opposition bloc's lingering worry about another martial law declaration.

Yoon declared an emergency martial law Tuesday night before repealing it early Wednesday as the parliament voted against it.
