Algerian military shoots down armed drone near Malian border

The Algerian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that its air defense forces shot down an armed reconnaissance drone late Monday night near the southern border town of Tinzaoutin, adjacent to Mali.



According to the ministry's statement, the drone was intercepted around midnight after intruding approximately two km into Algerian airspace, though no further details were provided.



The incident occurs amid Algeria's deployment of tens of thousands of troops along its southern and eastern borders to prevent the infiltration of militants and weapons amid ongoing instability in Mali, Niger, and Libya.
