A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Saturday, prompting a tsunami warning that was later lifted, local authorities said.

According to the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the quake, initially reported at 6.3 magnitude, occurred at 14:37 local time with its epicenter located about 123 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional capital, at a depth of 46.8 km.

Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov said in a Telegram post that tremors in the regional capital were felt at an intensity of 4 to 6 on the local scale. A tsunami threat has been declared, with residents urged to take precautions.

Later, the Kamchatka branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations revised the magnitude to 7.4 but lifted the tsunami warning.

Solodov added that specialists have begun inspecting socially significant facilities and residential buildings. So far, there have been no reports of destruction or severe damage.
