A saltwater pipe burst on Gloucester Road near Marsh Road in Wan Chai, causing a section of inner Gloucester Road to collapse. The single lane was temporarily closed, but the closure has now been lifted, and affected bus routes are gradually resuming their original routes.
The incident occurred this morning. A "black hole" approximately half a meter by half a meter and 1.5 meters deep appeared on the road section at the scene. The Water Supplies Department received a report and, upon investigation, confirmed that a 450mm diameter saltwater pipe supplying flushing water to consumers in Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, and Tai Hang was leaking.
A section of the road at the scene was temporarily closed to facilitate emergency road repair work. The Water Supplies Department stated that, to facilitate traffic arrangements at the scene, water pipe repairs are planned to begin tonight, with the goal of restoring flushing water supply tomorrow morning.
