ICAC charges foreman with soliciting bribes of over $50,000 from imported worke

10/9/2024 12:10
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has charged a carpenter's "foreman" of an airport project with taking bribes totaling about $54,000 from 10 imported workers to help them stay in his job. The defendant was released on bail and pleaded guilty at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The ICAC had earlier received a corruption complaint involving suspected wage exploitation of foreign workers. Investigation revealed that the 62-year-old male defendant had introduced 10 workers from the Mainland to work in Hong Kong, and solicited bribes ranging from $4,800 to $5,400 from each of them upon their arrival in Hong Kong, amounting to a total of about $54,000 in bribes.
