Chad on Saturday denied reports that it has agreed on the return of American Special Forces to the Central African nation. On Friday, American media, citing U.S. Major General Kenneth Ekman, reported that the United States and Chad had reached an understanding for the return of a limited number of Special Forces personnel. Chad's Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah said in a statement, "No decision of this nature has been taken by the Chadian authorities." Koulamallah added, "It is important to remember that Chad, as a sovereign state, remains master of its decisions in matters of national security and military cooperation with its international partners." Nearly five months ago, the United States Department of Defense announced the withdrawal of its military presence from Chad.
