5 civil defense members killed in Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon

10/10/2024 6:20
Five members of the Lebanese Civil Defense were killed on Wednesday evening in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Lebanese town of Derdghaiya, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.
Meanwhile, Lebanese military sources said Israeli warplanes carried out 14 airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanese towns and villages in the evening, without providing details on casualties.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, added that the Lebanese army sites recorded several infiltration attempts by Israeli infantry from across the border in southern Lebanon during the past 24 hours.
For its part, Hezbollah said in a statement that its fighters attacked several Israeli gatherings and sites with salvos of rockets, including those in the Al-Qalaa Heights, Maroun al-Ras, the city of Safed, Hatzor, the Amnon settlement, and the Ra'am military base.
"During the operations to confront the Israeli infiltration into the southeastern village of Mays al-Jabal, the resistance fighters fired 310 projectiles towards the enemy forces, inflicting casualties among them," it added.
In a statement, the Israeli military said Hezbollah forces in Lebanon fired throughout Wednesday a total of 360 rockets toward Israeli territory, with about 220 of them crossing into Israel.
Since Sept. 23, the Israeli army has been launching intensive airstrikes across Lebanon in a dangerous escalation with Hezbollah. It has also launched a "limited" ground military operation into Lebanon.
Since Oct. 8, 2023, Hezbollah and the Israeli army have been exchanging fire across the Lebanese-Israeli border amid fears of a broader conflict as the war between Hamas and Israel continues in the Gaza Strip.
