The National Council of the Slovak Republic on Wednesday passed a legislation concerning mass doctor resignations in the country.
The parliament decided to add a concept of "critical healthcare shortage" to the list of extraordinary situations, which means that if such shortage is declared, health personnel not providing health care could be held criminally liable.
The bill was approved in a fast-track procedure. 74 lawmakers voted for the bill, 70 against, and two abstained.
It is reported that more than 3,300 doctors from hospitals across Slovakia have filed resignations in protest of health sector conditions.
