Seven people were killed on Thursday when a fire broke out in a candle workshop in the city of Shubra El-Kheima in Egypt's Qalyubia governorate, north of the capital Cairo, official media reported.
The workshop was located on the first floor of a multi-story residential building, and the fire also damaged a room on the second floor, state-run Akhbar El-Yom newspaper reported.
Civil protection forces have brought the fire under control, and the bodies were transferred to the Nasser Public Hospital in the city, the report said.
The public prosecutor ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the fire. Initial investigations showed the workshop was unlicensed and should not operate in a residential area.
