CityU received 30 cases of student fraud last year

City University of Hong Kong said that according to the university's records, in 2024, the school received more than 30 cases of students being defrauded, involving about HK$15 million.



CityU has been working closely with the police, and the university has set up an inter-departmental working group to closely monitor related matters; for example, in the new semester of 2025, CityU has required all students to complete an anti-fraud questionnaire, which was jointly designed by the university and the police.



The working group also reminds students to be careful of fraud messages through various channels from time to time, including sending emails, posting posters in school, distributing flyers and more. The working group also plans to hold anti-fraud seminars and promotion work in school.



In addition, scholars from the Department of Media and Communication of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of CityU and China Unicom jointly launched the project "Technology Leading, Connecting the World: New Practices of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in Anti-Fraud Governance" to apply big data and artificial intelligence in an innovative way. , helping the world cope with the increasingly serious problem of telecommunications fraud, and was earlier selected by the World Internet Conference as the "Excellent Case of Working Together to Build a Community of Shared Future in Cyberspace" in 2024. CityU is very happy to further cooperate with law enforcement agencies to jointly combat telecommunications fraud.
