Russia has expelled a former Moldovan intelligence officer for attempting to collect classified information, local media reported Wednesday citing the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
"The activities of Dmitry Rusnak, a former employee of the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova, have been halted," said the FSB.
According to the FSB, Rusnak, a Moldovan national, arrived in Russia in 2024 with the aim of gathering classified information on "the Russian leadership's plans concerning Moldova," and on Russian officials involved in relevant foreign policy matters.
While the FSB noted that Rusnak's actions did not cause any actual harm to Russia's national security, he was expelled in February 2025 and has been banned from re-entering Russia for 60 years.
