Iranian president calls for fighting terrorism in calls with India, Pakistan PMs

27/4/2025 7:29
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday called for the expansion of regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism in phone talks with Pakistani and Indian prime ministers.

During the two phone conversations, Pezeshkian also discussed bilateral relations and international issues of common concern, according to statements released by his office.

Speaking to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pezeshkian stressed that recent terrorist incidents in the region had doubled the necessity to enhance regional cooperation in countering the "evil phenomenon" of terrorism and destroying the terrorist groups' financial and arms infrastructure.

He expressed deep sorrow at recent terrorist incidents, stressing, "We should focus all our efforts on ensuring peace, security, and calm in the region."

Pezeshkian voiced concern over the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan, especially in the aftermath of a recent deadly "terrorist" incident in Pahalgam town, the Indian-controlled Kashmir, saying such terrorist actions led to differences and tensions among regional states.
