3 seriously injured in helicopter crash off Australia's south coast

Three people were seriously injured in a helicopter crash off Australia's south coast on Friday.



Police in the state of Victoria said that the helicopter was seen crashing into water near the coastal town of Point Lonsdale, 60 kilometers southwest of Melbourne, just after 10 a.m. local time.



All three people who were onboard the aircraft and not formally identified managed to make it to shore, where they were located by members of the public who called emergency services.



A man and a woman were airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries, and a second man was taken to the hospital by road, also with serious injuries.



Victoria Police said in a statement that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were yet to be determined.



The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the crash with assistance from police.
