Soccer-Xaud elected president of Brazil's CBF

26/5/2025 6:08
Samir Xaud was elected as head of Brazil's football confederation (CBF) on Sunday, after Ednaldo Rodrigues was removed from the position by a Rio de Janeiro court.

The election took place a day before the new Brazilian national team coach, Italian Carlo Ancelotti, was due to be presented.

"We have started a new phase at the CBF. Our administration will be marked by the renewal of ideas and the full development of sport," Xaud, a medical doctor, said in his inaugural speech.

Xaud, the only candidate and president-elect of the Roraima state football federation, received 101 of the 143 possible votes and was elected with the strong support of the state federations.

Earlier this week, Rodrigues dropped an appeal against his removal from the position which came after a court ruling nullified an agreement which had enabled him to secure re-election until 2030.

The court case concerned the alleged forgery of former CBF president Antonio Carlos Nunes de Lima's signature on the agreement.
