Construction site explosion injures 8 in Tokyo

An explosion occurred at a construction site in Tokyo's Edogawa Ward on Tuesday morning, injuring eight people, local media reported.



According to the Tokyo Fire Department, a report of an explosion sound was received around 9:30 a.m. local time. Japan's national broadcaster reported, black smoke was seen rising from a construction vehicle at the site, which was engulfed in flames,.



A total of eight people, including construction workers and nearby residents, were injured. None of the injuries is life-threatening, according to the report. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said construction work was underway to drive foundation piles for a new condominium building at the site, and there is a possibility that a gas pipe was damaged during the process.



Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause and details of the incident.
