12/6/2025 6:05
A 6.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in the sea east of Hualien, Taiwan at 7pm last night. No casualties or damage have been reported so far. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 70 kilometers south of the Hualien County Government, and the focal depth was about 31 kilometers, which is a shallow earthquake. Almost all of Taiwan felt the earthquake, and the maximum intensity occurred in Changbin Township, Taitung.

The Hong Kong Observatory made a preliminary analysis that at 7pm last night, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Taiwan, with the epicenter about 67 kilometers south of Hualien, or about 780 kilometers east of Hong Kong, and the focal depth was about 10 kilometers.

The Observatory received reports from several citizens who said they felt the earthquake, and the shaking lasted for a few seconds. Preliminary analysis shows that the earthquake intensity in Hong Kong is the second degree of the Revised Mercalli Intensity Scale, which means that people who are on the upper floors of buildings or in suitable locations and are stationary will feel it.
