18 wounded in gas explosion at commercial building in N. Iran

At least 18 people were injured on Sunday in a powerful gas explosion at a commercial building in Iran's northern city of Rasht, the state-run IRIB news agency reported.

Three commercial units were destroyed in the blast that occurred in Bahonar Street, Shahram Momeni, head of Rasht's fire department, was quoted as saying by the Iranian Students' News Agency.

He noted that all those wounded in the incident were transferred to medical centers, adding six operational teams as well as firefighters were present at the scene.

Momeni said the debris removal operations had ended and no one was found trapped beneath the rubble, stressing that the incident's main cause was still under investigation.
