Pakistan and the United States on Tuesday reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations during the latest round of the Pakistan-U.S. Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.
The meeting was co-chaired by Special Secretary for United Nations Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Nabeel Munir and Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism for the Bureau of Counterterrorism of the U.S. Department of State Gregory D. LoGerfo, the ministry said in a statement.
Discussions focused on consolidating joint efforts against terrorist threats, including those posed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Islamic State Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Both sides stressed the need for effective strategies to neutralize these groups.
The two sides agreed to enhance institutional mechanisms, strengthen operational capacities, and address the misuse of emerging technologies by terrorist entities. They also pledged to intensify engagement within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, to advance comprehensive counterterrorism measures.
The two sides emphasized that sustained, structured dialogue remains essential for promoting peace, security, and stability.
The dialogue took place a day after the United States designated the BLA and its affiliate Majeed Brigade, as foreign terrorist organizations. Pakistan welcomed the designation, reaffirming its resolve to protect its citizens and eliminate terrorism.
