Netherlands ends Gaza airdrop mission after delivering over 100 tons of aid

27/8/2025 19:30
The Dutch Air Force has concluded its humanitarian airdrop mission over the Gaza Strip after delivering more than 108 tons of food, water and medical supplies since August 8, the defense ministry announced on Wednesday.

Launched at Jordan's request and coordinated from Amman, the operation saw Dutch aircraft fly daily alongside planes from Germany, Indonesia and several other nations.

In total, around 130 bundles of aid were released containing flour, rice, sugar, soup and other basic goods, the ministry said in a statement.

"The Dutch government continues to urge Israel to allow aid convoys to enter Gaza by road," the ministry added. "This remains the safest and most effective way to address the dire humanitarian needs in the enclave."

The airdrops took place amid worsening famine conditions in Gaza, which remains under Israeli blockade during the ongoing conflict. Earlier this month, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported that the cabinet approved the mission in response to what it described as a "catastrophic" humanitarian crisis.
