Kuwaiti army says responding to missile, drone attacks

The Kuwaiti army said on Thursday that its air defense systems are responding to hostile missile attacks and drones targeting the country.

In a statement released by the Kuwait News Agency, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army said that any sounds of explosions heard by the public are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile attacks.

The army urged "everyone to comply with security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities."

Air raid sirens sounded twice consecutively across Kuwait starting at 3:40 a.m. local time, while several explosions were heard.

Bahrain and Qatar also sounded missile alert sirens early Thursday, warning of Iranian attacks after the United States launched a new round of airstrikes targeting Iran.

Sirens sounded at least twice in Bahrain on Thursday and the public was urged to seek shelter and remain calm.

U.S. forces conducted strikes against Iran for a second straight day on Wednesday to "degrade" Iran's ability "to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," the U.S. Central Command said.
