Philippine senator criticizes ICC ruling on Duterte case jurisdiction

Philippine Senator Imee Marcos has criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) ruling upholding jurisdiction in the case involving former President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement released Wednesday, Marcos said the ruling "disregards the Philippines' sovereign withdrawal from the Rome Statute."

"Justice must be pursued in a manner consistent with our Constitution, our laws, and the integrity of our own judicial processes," she added.

The ICC's Appeals Chamber on Wednesday upheld the court's jurisdiction over the Duterte case, affirming an earlier decision by Pre-Trial Chamber I dated Oct. 23, 2025. The ICC maintained that it has authority over the case.
