Egypt, Saudi Arabia discuss regional de-escalation efforts over phone

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on Wednesday discussed efforts to reduce escalation and contain tensions in the region, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.



In a phone call, the two ministers addressed ways to further activate efforts by the quadrilateral group comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan to support de-escalation and enhance security and stability in the region.



They also discussed intensive efforts by regional partners, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to reduce escalation, contain regional tensions and return to the diplomatic track within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran.



The two ministers stressed the importance of addressing existing regional security concerns, preserving the sovereignty of states, preventing attacks against them and avoiding an expansion of the conflict.



They also stressed the "importance of ensuring the security, safety and freedom of navigation in international waterways."



During their phone call, the two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation in various fields.
