Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will remain in effect until at least 12 noon today

5/9/2024 5:34
Strong Wind Signal No. 3 will remain in effect until at least 12 noon today. The Observatory indicated that it may be necessary to issue a higher tropical cyclone signal from this afternoon to evening.

At 4 a.m., Super Typhoon Yagi gathered about 410 kilometers south-southeast of Hong Kong and was expected to move westward at a speed of about 12 kilometers per hour across the northern South China Sea and continue to intensify. In the past few hours, Yagi has continued to move westward, and its associated outer rainbands are gradually moving towards the Pearl River Estuary. Strong winds from the east to the northeast will gradually blow in the general area of Hong Kong, with occasional strong winds offshore and on highlands.

If Yagi moves along its current forecast path and continues to intensify, the winds in Hong Kong are expected to further increase later today, and the Observatory may need to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal from this afternoon to evening. There will be large waves and swells on the sea surface. People should stay away from the shore and stop all water activities.
