Palestinian prisoner from West Bank dies in Israeli hospital

A Palestinian prisoner from the West Bank died in an Israeli hospital on Sunday, according to a joint statement issued by the Palestinian Commission of Detainees' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club.

Nasser Radaideh, 49, from the town of Al-Ubeidiya in Bethlehem, southern West Bank, died in Hadassah Hospital in Israel after being transferred Saturday from Ofer Prison, central West Bank, the statement said.

Radaideh had been detained since September 2023 after being shot by Israeli soldiers, according to the statement.

The Israel Prison Service confirmed Radaideh's death in a press statement, saying a prisoner from the West Bank died after he was transferred to the hospital from Ofer Prison, without providing further details.

Hamas condemned the incident in a statement, describing the detainee's death as "a violation of all international and humanitarian conventions and a war crime."

With Radaideh's death, the number of prisoners who have died since the start of the Israeli war against Palestinians on Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 65, including at least 40 from the Gaza Strip. According to official Palestinian figures, Israel holds more than 9,900 Palestinian prisoners in its jails.
