17/2/2025 6:09
Qi Qi, an eight-month-old Hong Kong baby girl with heart failure, received a cross-border organ donation from the Mainland and completed a heart transplant.

The Medical and Health Bureau and the Hospital Authority announced that with the strong support and efforts of various ministries and medical institutions in the Mainland, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has once again received cross-border organ donations from the Mainland. Last night at the Hong Kong Children's Hospital, a heart transplant was successfully performed on an eight-month-old baby girl, Qi Qi. Qi Qi's parents thanked various units in the Mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for their assistance in finding a suitable heart for their daughter, and also thanked the efforts of the medical teams in both places to work together to save their daughter's life. They are also very grateful to the donor's relatives for making a selfless decision in a difficult time, and believe that it is their great love that gave their daughter a chance to be reborn.

Ren Liheng, the consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the hospital who was in charge of the transplant, said that earlier yesterday, the National Heart Transplant Quality Control Center in Beijing sent a heart transplant expert to perform a heart acquisition operation in the mainland, and the Hong Kong Children's Hospital immediately performed the operation after receiving the heart in the afternoon of the same day. The operation lasted about 6 and a half hours. Qiqi is currently under close monitoring in the intensive care unit, and the next 24 hours will still be a critical period.
